SIMCon - Frequently Asked Questions
I am a SIMCon user. How do I get support?
You can get support through our partner, Paraben Corporation by CLICKING HERE.
What if my SMS messages are stored on my phone, not my SIM card?
We have another product that allows you to easily download data from your cell phone directly. CLICK HERE for more information.
Do I have SIM or USIM?
It is not possible for the user to determine if the card is a SIM, a USIM or both. Many operators put both the SIM and USIM application on their cards. The USIM application may contain valuable evidence that you cannot recover with a program that does not support USIM. SIMCon users do not have to worry about this since SIMCon supports both SIM and USIM.
Is it possible to wipe messages with SIMCon?
No! Providing the capability to change the contents of a card is dangerous for a program that is meant to produce evidence. One would risk that the resulting data could not be used as evidence, since it could not be guaranteed that proper evidence handling rules had been followed. For this reason it is not possible to wipe messages, or make any other change to the contents of a SIM card with SIMCon.
Which phone models do SIMCon support?
SIMCon can read the contents of a GSM SIM card regardsless of which phone it has been used in.
How long time does it take?
Imaging a SIM card takes 1-2 minutes depending on the speed of the reader. You can then store the content on a computer file and do the analysis later. Since imaging is so easy, it might be a good idea to take "snapshots" of a card to be investigated at regular intervals.
Can SIMCon get the PIN or PUK codes?
PIN and PUK codes are not stored in files on the card. With SIMCon, you can authenticate yourself with PIN or PUK, or you can choose to read the accessible files without any of the codes.
The PUK code (the master code) cannot be changed, and is always stored by the service provider. It is therefore always possible to obtain the correct PUK code for a card from the service provider.
Can SIMCon read inactive cards?
SIMCon can read the contents of the card regardless of the subscription status. As long as you have the card, you can read it, even if the subscription has been deactivated.
